More Proof that PTA moms in Cleveland totally ROCK!

For the last several weeks two big things have been happening in our PTA.  First, the moms (most of them!) have been planning a big night out tonight for the premier of Eclipse (a Twilight movie)!  They are going to the midnight show, with food and drinks before hand.  All are so excited!

Second, though, our beloved Susan (a mom) has been struggling with terrible back pain, trying various meds and having to take leave from work.  We’ve supported her with meals and visits, through her shopping therapy and funny comments while on perkacet, only to today find out she has to have pretty risky surgery.  In addition, Susan was one of the most excited about tonight’s premier, and is unable to attend as she cannot sit that long (even to go in the car, much less the theater).

PTA moms however are a force to be reckoned with and do not take no’s lightly.  So, they made “Sue on a stick”.  They took pictures they had of Sue and put them on sticks so that she can spend the evening with them.  Pictures are being loaded on Facebook as we speak so Sue knows how much she is loved and missed and to feel part of the group she is a vital part of.

Support won’t end there.  Sue and our entire PTA know that.  We are in it for the long haul, with every single one of our families.  Another reason why we love our PTA.

Kids Resale Events are Awesome

I think if I had to, I could list 100 reasons why I love kids resale events, but here are just a few.  If you have never been to a kids sale, whether you are expecting or already have children, you don’t want to miss out.

The first time I went to a kids sale my 6 month old first born (a boy) was wearing 12 month clothes, so I had nothing, or what I did have was the wrong season.  Who knew that the child would not follow the guidelines set forth by the clothing makers.  My neighbor told me about how great the sale is and her husband joked about how he is a kids resale widow every fall and spring while she shops.  Even he admitted what a great deal it is though!  I helped with set up at my PTA’s sale to get an entire wardrobe for my son for around $20.00. I got onzies and tshirs and pants, even a jacket.

I was hooked.  Over the years I have purchased everything from more clothing (I now have two boys who grow or wear through everything) to toys, to extra items to keep at the grandparents houses and so much more.  Found bed rails I needed, gates, one of those cars the kids hit the pedal and go a whole 5 MPH down the drive.  All of these at such great prices and some looking like they were never used.

So even though my kids are a bit old for these sales I still go.  The minimal admission is worth the look to see if there are any clothes in their size or toys they have not outgrown yet.  If you are thinking of going for the first time I promise you will not be disappointed.  If you are a kids resale junkie like me leave a comment below with one of your best deals!

Happy Shopping!  For a list of events in the area go to our resale events page.

Spring is coming – Really!!!

If you were like our family, you did a lot of snow shoveling this weekend!  Today was great for building with the snow too!  We have a great fort in our front yard and one of our neighbors has the biggest snowman ever!

But don’t fear, Spring is coming soon!  I know because we are hard at work planning for our Breakfast with the Easter Bunny and our Spring Kids sale!  Soon enough we’ll be wearing our shorts and seeing the sunshine a little more often!  Whether you are a member or not, we would love to see you at both of these events!  See their pages for more information!

Rock and Bowl is a Blast

Great job shout out to Laura K, Karen W and Kelli J (also to Colleen G for selling the most tickets) on a very successful Rock and Bowl held at Fairview Lanes.  The food was awesome, the prizes were fantastic, the atmosphere was energizing.  Need I say more.
Everyone was so excited that the party continued long into the night.

As we learned at our February meeting, parents, even those with very young children and no family in town, have to find a way to get out on a date for just a couple hours with no kids.  Rock and Bowl was the perfect evening for that.  Thanks to everyone who came out or supported in their own way!

What early childhood PTA means to me!

I am “aging out” as they call it in early childhood PTA terms.  My youngest is currently six years old so I was able to get in for one more year.  As this year comes all to quickly to a close (we work on a school year) I am saddened by the end of this era of my life but so thankful that I found this group and made so many wonderful friends.

My youngest now in first grade, started kindergarten knowing seven kids in his class from PTA.  He was so confident starting school because frankly, he was going with all his friends.  The parents and I all stood outside the kindergarten building together happy and tearful at the same time that our little ones were starting school.  We wouldn’t however have each other if it weren’t for early childhood PTA.

I found out about the PTA from a flyer at the Kamms Corners 4th of July parade when my oldest was almost a year old.  I joined that fall and it was one of the best parenting decisions I have ever made.  Every single speaker at meeting has in some way educated me on something related to my or my childs well being.  So many parents have offered support or advice through the Yahoo group or at social events.

Even this year, with my kids being older I have learned a tremendous amount from the speakers on estate planning, occupational therapy and community night.

If you are considering joining an early childhood PTA, please do.  They will bring  you so much, and while they may ask for you to help out with activities or volunteer on a committee it will be returned to you 10 fold in what you will gain from the group.  I have heard that not all early childhood PTA’s are the same, but West Park’s is for me and the great friends and families my family has gotten the privilege of knowing over these years.

Calendar Planners – Save the dates!

While most of us are enjoying the sun and fun this summer the Board is working very hard to assure that we have the best year ever!  The line up of speakers is great, the ice cream social is coming soon and if you are a calendar person like me, you can pencil in these dates as well!

We have confirmed St. Joe’s for kids sale on October 3rd.  Please plan to help out (and shop of course) if you don’t plan to sell this year.

We have two husbands club events on the books.  October 23 will be Poker night and Feb 6th will be beer making (9:30 a.m. no less which means they are on ‘kitchen pass’ for the entire day!!

We also have (drum role) three parents nights out in the works.  They are Sept 25, Oct 9 and Nov 6th.  Sign ups will be at the first meeting!  They will again be from 6:30 to 9 at the YMCA!  Cost is $2 per child – what a deal!

A reminder too that we will have Entertainment books and All Around Town books at the first meeting.  If you want them earlier, contact Pam P.

Finally, begin telling your neighbors, people at the park, the mom in line at the grocery store behind you etc all about our awesome PTA and upcoming events!

Happy Summer!
